Choosing a replacement mobility scooter battery should be simple. Unlike many battery applications, there is usually no need to decide which capacity is "best" — the correct battery is determined primarily by your scooter model or the specification of the batteries already fitted.
SHORT ON TIME?
Find the Correct Mobility Scooter Battery
There are two easy ways to identify the right replacement.
Find Your Mobility Scooter Battery by Brand & Model
If you know the make and model of your mobility scooter, this is the easiest way to choose the correct battery.
Rather than measuring batteries or comparing Ah ratings yourself, use our mobility scooter brand finder to locate your scooter and view the compatible replacement battery set.
FASTEST WAY TO FIND YOUR BATTERY
Find Mobility Scooter Batteries by Brand & Model
CHOOSE YOUR BRANDSELECT YOUR MODELVIEW COMPATIBLE BATTERIES
If your scooter is listed in our compatibility guide, simply select the manufacturer and model. We have already done the fitment work for you.
You do not need to understand battery sizes, capacity or terminals if your scooter model is already listed.
If you cannot find your scooter in the brand and model finder, the next easiest option is to check the batteries already fitted.
In most cases, you simply need to replace them with batteries that match the important electrical and physical specifications.
1. Check the Voltage
Mobility scooters commonly use two 12V batteries connected together. Check the voltage shown on the existing battery label.
2. Check the Ah Rating
Look for a capacity figure such as 12Ah, 15Ah, 22Ah, 34Ah, 50Ah, 60Ah or 85Ah.
3. Measure the Battery
Measure the battery length, width and height. Batteries with similar Ah ratings can still use different case sizes.
4. Check the Terminals
Make sure the replacement has the correct terminal type and that the existing cables can connect safely.
5. Check the Quantity
Most mobility scooters use a matched pair of batteries rather than one standalone battery.
6. Replace Like-for-Like
If the original batteries worked correctly in the scooter, matching their specification is normally the simplest replacement route.
Still unsure?
Send us a clear photograph of the existing battery label along with your scooter make and model. In many cases, that gives us enough information to identify the correct replacement.
Why Are Mobility Scooter Batteries Replaced in Pairs?
Many mobility scooters use two 12V batteries together to create a 24V system.
Those batteries work together during both charging and discharge, so they should normally be replaced as a matched pair rather than replacing only one battery.
Our mobility listings are supplied as complete battery pairs.
If your scooter requires two batteries, the products below contain both batteries needed for the replacement.
Replacing only one battery can leave a new battery working alongside an older battery with different capacity and internal condition. Replacing both together helps keep the pair balanced.
Mobility Scooter Battery Sizes
Battery Store currently offers seven main AGM mobility scooter battery pairs. Choose by fitment, not by trying to select the largest capacity available.
Can I Fit Higher Ah Batteries to My Mobility Scooter?
Sometimes, but a higher Ah rating does not automatically mean the battery is a suitable replacement.
A higher-capacity battery may be physically larger, heavier or use a different terminal arrangement. The scooter's battery compartment, cables and charger also need to remain suitable.
The safest rule:
If you are unsure, match the original battery capacity and dimensions or use the scooter model compatibility finder. Do not choose a larger battery simply because it promises more range.
Will My Existing Mobility Scooter Charger Work?
If you are replacing the batteries with the correct AGM pair specified for the scooter, the existing original charger will normally already be intended for that battery system.
If the charger has also been replaced, modified or is not the original unit, check that its output voltage and charging profile are suitable for the scooter's AGM battery system.
Correct Battery Pair
Match the battery specification intended for the scooter rather than adapting the scooter around a different battery.
Correct Charger
Use a charger designed for the scooter's battery voltage and AGM technology.
VAT Exemption on Mobility Scooter Batteries
The mobility battery products linked in this guide are VAT-exempt listings intended for customers who meet the relevant eligibility requirements for VAT relief on qualifying mobility products.
Where VAT relief applies, the required declaration must be completed when purchasing. If you are not eligible for VAT relief, use the corresponding VAT-inclusive product instead.
VAT exemption is based on customer eligibility and qualifying use.
Selecting a VAT-exempt product does not itself determine eligibility. Complete the declaration accurately when ordering.
Mobility Scooter Battery FAQs
These are the main questions worth answering before replacing a mobility scooter battery. In most cases, the answer still comes back to correct fitment.
How do I know which battery fits my mobility scooter?
The easiest route is to use our mobility scooter battery finder by brand and model. If your scooter is not listed, compare the voltage, Ah rating, dimensions and terminal arrangement with the batteries already fitted.
Do mobility scooters use one battery or two?
Many mobility scooters use two 12V batteries together to create a 24V battery system. Check your scooter or existing battery pack before ordering.
Should I replace both mobility scooter batteries together?
Yes, where the scooter uses a matched pair. Replacing both together helps keep their capacity, charging behaviour and performance balanced.
Can I replace only one failed mobility scooter battery?
We generally recommend replacing the complete pair. A brand-new battery paired with a significantly older battery can create an imbalance between the two.
Can I replace a 12Ah mobility battery with a 15Ah battery?
In some scooters this may be possible where the dimensions, terminals and battery compartment are compatible. However, fitment should be confirmed rather than assuming a higher Ah battery will automatically fit.
Can I fit higher Ah batteries for more range?
Potentially, but only where the larger battery physically fits and is compatible with the scooter and charging system. The safest approach is to use the battery capacity specified for your model unless an alternative fitment has been confirmed.
Are mobility scooter batteries AGM?
The mobility scooter battery pairs listed in this guide use sealed AGM technology designed for repeated mobility use and maintenance-free operation.
Do I need to measure my batteries before ordering?
If your scooter model is already listed in our compatibility finder, you can use the specified fitment. If it is not listed, measuring length, width and height is an important part of confirming the replacement.
Does terminal type matter on a mobility scooter battery?
Yes. The replacement battery must allow the existing scooter cables and connectors to attach correctly and safely, so terminal type and arrangement should be checked before ordering.
How long should mobility scooter batteries last?
Battery life depends on usage frequency, depth of discharge, charging habits, storage conditions and battery age. Regular correct charging and avoiding prolonged storage in a discharged condition can help maximise service life.
Why is my mobility scooter range getting shorter?
Reduced range can be a sign that the battery pair has lost capacity with age or use. Range can also be affected by temperature, terrain, tyre condition, rider weight and how the scooter is driven.
Can I use a normal car battery in a mobility scooter?
No. Mobility scooters require batteries designed for repeated discharge and recharge cycles and must also match the scooter's physical and electrical fitment. Use a suitable mobility AGM battery rather than a conventional automotive starter battery.
Still Not Sure Which Mobility Scooter Battery You Need?
You do not need to become a battery expert. If your scooter is not listed and you are unsure which battery pair fits, send us the information you already have and we can help identify the closest replacement.
Send us as much of the following as you can:
Your mobility scooter manufacturer.
The exact scooter model.
A clear photograph of the existing battery label.
The Ah rating shown on the battery.
The battery length, width and height.
A photograph of the battery terminals and existing connections.
High-quality chargers and accessories to keep your batteries performing at their best.
Suitable for a wide range of applications including automotive, leisure, marine and industrial use.
